A Very Vibrant Victorian in Rittenhouse Square by Michelle Gage Interiors

Reveal: A Very Vibrant Victorian

I am so excited to share this project with you all. These clients came to me over a year ago, via a very extensive Google search, after a move to Philadelphia from Park Slope. They had recently purchased a lovely 1800 Victorian Home and needed a designerโ€™s touch to infuse their style into the space. As avid art collectors, they came with a bevy of beautiful pieces, which they wished to display around the home.

Their careers in education had brought this couple to the city. With their children in tow, they were ready to make the move and wanted to know where to invest in their home. In addition to finding new items, this family had collected a lot of unique accessories from their vast travels that they wanted front and center.

As any designer and design client knows, the whole process takes time – especially if your goal is to create a truly custom home, as was ours. These clients were willing to wait for the most amazing goods – like the distressed mirror over the living room mantle, which took a whopping nine months to arrive. For rugs, they wanted to see them in person before purchasing, so we went to a local rug shop to browse their stacks.

To create a look that really spoke to their personal style, we went custom. In the living room, we recovered vintage chairs in an amazing ochre textile. In the office, we brought in a talented woodworker to create functional shelving for their massive book collection and a pair of desks for them to comfortably work at when at home.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience designing for this trusting client. They wanted a home that looked like them, but were quick to defer to me for my ability to do that. Their home is now one that is equally colorful and comfortable. They can enjoy the home as a family but also have ample space to entertain.
