What better way to kick off this beautiful spring weather than a fabulous weekend full of colorful historic homes, shops and delicious bites to eat?! I’ve visited the Washington, DC area multiple times and Georgetown is my favorite destination; it offers everything I love in a bite-size area. The neighborhood effortlessly merges the old and the new. Colonial architecture coexists with trendy boutiques on cobblestone streets. The National Cherry Blossom Festival is also in full swing, so now is the perfect time to add a trip to DC to your weekend plans.
Start off with coffee and a delicious breakfast sandwich at Call Your Mother Deli. The building is hot pink and impossible to miss. I’m dying for a location to open up closer to Philly! Not in the mood for a breakfast sandwich? There are tons of other amazing cafes and bakeries – Tatte, Maman, Yellow and Baked and Wired. Baked and Wired is a DC staple; it’s a family-owned bakery with the most delicious sweet treats.
After you’ve gotten some fuel, make your way down Wisconsin Avenue. There are plenty of shops to check out while you explore on foot. Manse has beautiful artisan-made home goods. Stop by Ally Banks for vintage art and amazing decor to style your home. Pillar and Post is a must-visit for antique finds – it has tons of British art too. Alex and I have purchased some special one-of-a-kind pieces there.
Looking for something more personal? The Sezane pop-up is another great shop – and hopefully stays put a bit longer. I also love the Anthropologie here. Catbird has stunning jewelry pieces and tons of fun charms for you and a friend. You can also get personalized permanent jewelry here, like a bracelet. L. Priori, a Philadelphia-based jeweler that also has a location in DC, offers custom, new and estate pieces.
For lunch, check out GRECO for delicious Greek food. You can get your lunch to-go and have a picnic along the banks of the Potomac River – there are plenty of places to sit and eat out while enjoying the views. For something sweet, stop by Sprinkles. I recommend the Black & White cupcake for chocolate lovers…and be sure to bring a pupcake home for Fido!
Georgetown is one of the few neighborhoods in DC that can be reached by water. The Waterfront Park is a great place to enjoy an afternoon drink or explore options for a cruise on the river. If boats aren’t your thing, then head over to Dumbarton Oaks. The secluded, lush grounds are like a secret garden. The lawns are meticulously manicured and a great escape from the bustling streets of Georgetown.
For dinner, The Tombs features a casual atmosphere with vintage decor and savory American cuisine. Another great option is 1310 Kitchen & Bar for delicious Mediterranean-inspired meals.
Head to the Georgetown Flea Market before you leave town; it’s open every Sunday year-round. I love to stroll through and do some treasure hunting! The market has a great mix of home goods, clothing, furniture, books and art.
If you’re planning a longer visit to Washington, DC, check out the Alexandria, Foggy Bottom and NoMa (home to Union Market) neighborhoods for more great sites and shops.
