Last month, we journeyed to New Orleans to experience the city during spooky season. The incredibly charming architecture, mixed with the most amazing meals and cocktails certainly make New Orleans a city to see!
Our flight landed after lunch, so we only had an afternoon to explore on “day one.” We dropped our bags at our hotel, The Chloe, which was a major source of inspiration for us while designing Our Crown Jewel of East Passyunk. Later, we hopped over to The Hotel At St.Vincent for food. We ate a meal on the porch, a drink at the bar (must see design) and popped over for treats at Elizabeth Street Cafe.
Afterwards, in true New Orleans spirit, we had more drinks at the punchy Bar Marilou (get the Hammock Panic, trust me) before making our way to Creole Creamery for the best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life. No joke – and I know ice cream – this was the most delicious. HIGHLY recommend the peanut butter fudge pie flavor. I have been craving it ever since I finished my last bite. No, they don’t ship – otherwise there would be a crate of that stuff sitting at my front door as I type.
The next day we had a fantastic breakfast at The Chloe. We then walked over to Magazine Street to do some shopping. There is no shortage of great boutiques and antique stores; get yourself to Magpie Vintage, Merchant House and Vibrant Market (the facials are on point). After we got a substantial amount of steps in, we popped into Molly’s Rise and Shine for lunch and The Daily Beet for a healthy shake. At night, we made our way to Frenchman Street for a mix of live music and an artists’ night market, followed by the iconic Cafe Du Monde.
On the following day, we walked the city park, sculpture garden and visited the Museum of Art. For lunch, we visited Willa Jean – and polished a healthy meal off with WJ’s signature cookie and milk plate. Dinner was at The Chloe, which I do think had some of the best food (desserts aside, you know I feel about that ice cream) of the trip. We were too tired to make it there come nightfall, but The Cure is a bar that came highly recommended, as they have won a James Beard award for their unique cocktails.
All in all, New Orleans is an impossibly charming town that I would highly recommend visiting. We had TWO clients last year with New Orleans roots who absolutely love everything about the city – and we can see why. For the most part, you can get around the city by trolley. The food is great, as are the vibes. 10/10 would recommend.
P.S. Did you spot the cheeky New Orleans toile wallpaper in the dining room of Our Gentleman’s Farmhouse Project? Also, note the nod to the city with the lilac kitchen and green bathroom.
