Project Reveal: Crown Jewel Of East Passyunk

One of the biggest compliments we can receive as a firm is when clients come back to work with us on additional homes. Five years ago, we worked with this homeowner on her lovely industrial loft. It was such a delight to bring in saturated colors and whimsical furnishings that fit her personality, providing contrast against the brick and concrete. We were tickled pink to be tapped for a new project – a row home in East Passyunk

The homeowner had a very clear vision for what she wanted her new home to look like: to evoke the feeling of a moody, jewel-toned boutique hotel. With roots in New Orleans, we were determined to make this home feel like HER, delivering on the vision by infusing rich colors, soft velvets and the perfect prints. This home was a full gut, and we were tasked with designing nearly every room in the home – 12 spaces in total. While we used many of the furnishings from the loft, our goal was to make them feel totally different in this new home.

Enter through the foyer where you’re greeted by gorgeous, glowing mosaic bird tile and the sweetest cafe curtain. The living room is a swirl of colors and textures, including an aubergine velvet sofa, auburn velvet club chair and a funky set of lush leaf chairs that round a marble-topped bistro table. We were able to utilize some special pieces from the client’s previous home, like the stunning banana bark cabinet. Additionally, we designed the built-ins that surround the vintage fireplace that we sourced specifically for this home.

A peachy velvet curtain panel separates the living room from the dining room. For the dining room, we used the homeowner’s heirloom table and chairs but made it feel fresh by wallpapering the ceiling and adding a modern chandelier.

The lounge features custom brilliant blue cabinetry with design elements our team obsessed over. The built-ins provide ample spillover storage from the kitchen and allow the homeowner to put her vintage glassware on display. We incorporated her teal velvet chairs and white credenza from her former home but made them feel revived with the incredible wallpaper and bold yellow rug.

From the onset of the project – within minutes of seeing the property for the first time – we knew this home was begging for a dark purple kitchen. When we posed the idea to our client, she was instantly on board. After landing on the cabinet color, we were itching to get more print into the space and did it with the floral patterned backsplash tile, as well as the checkerboard layout of the floor which features blue pops!

One request of our client was that we keep the pale blue wall tile in the powder room. We loved the idea of working with what was already “good” and added this hollyhock floral wallpaper to both the walls above the tile and the ceiling. We brought more print in through both the floor tile, sink skirt, and window treatment.

When you think of hotels, your mind goes to relaxing and comfortable bedrooms. We designed the bedroom to be a bit of a retreat from all of the saturated colors – but didn’t skimp on the pattern. We wrapped the ceiling and walls in this fresh floral and mixed it with juxtaposing prints in the bedding and rug. We were able to use the nightstands we sourced for her last home, adding a quirky light fixture above each one.

The dressing room is a dream space. The rich radicchio cabinetry color is only enhanced by the most incredible wallpaper – a bold punch off of the subtle hues in the bedroom. This dressing room is also outfitted with a mini bar – perfect for morning coffee or tea! Off of the dressing room is the connected bathroom, with wall to wall and floor to ceiling teal tile. Our team reworked this entire floor to create this primary suite and are ecstatic over the results!

We so enjoyed the creative challenge of turning this Philadelphia row home into what feels like a chic boutique hotel. If you’re interested in getting started on a project of your very own, don’t hesitate to fill out the project inquiry form on our website. We’d love to work with you!
